The 3rd International Conference on Japan–Bangladesh Research and Practice (JBRP 2024) Held in Japan
Okinawa, Japan – December 1, 2024
The 3rd International Conference on Japan–Bangladesh Research and Practice (JBRP 2024), organized by the Network of Bangladeshi Researchers in Japan (NBRJ), successfully took place online on November 29–30, 2024. Coordinated from the University of the Ryukyus, Okinawa, Japan, this prestigious event brought together approximately 75 researchers, academics, and professionals from Japan, Bangladesh, India, Jordan, Malaysia, Sweden, the UK, and the USA. The conference provided a platform to exchange ideas and showcase innovative practices addressing shared challenges and opportunities in various fields, with a special focus on Bangladesh-Japan scientific collaboration and development.
The JBRP 2024 organizing committee curated a comprehensive multidisciplinary program featuring 40 extended abstracts presented across nine sessions under four major tracks:
1. Business, Humanities, and Social Sciences
2. Agricultural Science
3. Medical, Pharmaceutical, and Public Health
4. Natural Science, Engineering, and ICT

The Best Presentation Awards were presented to three young researchers from the University of Dhaka and two senior researchers from Waseda University and Miyazaki International University.
Keynote and Plenary Sessions
- Keynote Address: Professor Yasukuki Sawada (The University of Tokyo, former Chief Economist at ADB), delivered an insightful keynote titled “The Bangladesh Miracle and Challenges,” highlighting the critical need to build trust in interim governance to ensure a smooth democratic transition and sustain Bangladesh’s development.
- Plenary Session 1: Professor Mirza Hasanuzzaman (Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Bangladesh) spoke on “Sustainable Crop Production in Bangladesh: Navigating Climate Change and Embracing Agriculture 4.0.”
- Plenary Session 2: Associate Professor Md Moshiur Rahman (Hiroshima University) addressed “Enhancing Adolescent Reproductive Health in Rural Bangladesh: Anemia Prevalence, Associated Factors, and the Role of mHealth Interventions.”
- Plenary Session 3: Professor Md Shoaib Bhuiyan (Suzuka University of Medical Science, Japan) presented “How Artificial Intelligence (AI) is Changing Healthcare and Related Fields.”
- Mr. Muhammed Bashir, Counselor (Political) at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Tokyo, delivered encouraging remarks during the awards and closing session.
Key Discussions and Recommendations
Plenary sessions emphasized several critical points, including:
• Gathering credible data from diverse sources.
• Conducting rigorous research to inform evidence-based policymaking.
• Enhancing researchers’ capacities in AI, machine learning, and data science. • Strengthening collaborations between NBRJ members and stakeholders such as JICA, government departments, universities, and private sectors in Japan and Bangladesh.
Acknowledgments and Future Conference
The JBRP 2024 committee, led by Dr. Md. Amzad Hossain (University of the Ryukyus), worked tirelessly over several months to ensure the event’s success. Committee members included Dr. Angkush Kumar Ghosh (Kitami Institute of Technology), Dr. Shahida Parvin (Waseda University), Dr. Md. Shahajahan Kutubi, Dr. Tofael Ahmed (University of Tsukuba), and Dr. Mohammad Abdul Malek (Miyazaki International University). Media support was provided by Dr. Mashiur Rahman and his team at Biggani.org.
On behalf of the NBRJ Board, Chair Dr. Khondaker Mizanur Rahman (Nanzan University) expressed gratitude to all contributors, track committee advisers, and session chairs. He also announced the 4th JBRP Conference to be held in Tokyo on August 9–10, 2025, as a hybrid event. Dr. Mohammad Abdul Malek was nominated as the General Chair of the 4th International Conference on Japan–Bangladesh Research and Practice (JBRP) 2025.
